INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

As your child's teacher I will try to be a loving, caring, understanding , and giving person.    I will teach to different learning styles and abilities.  Your child's education is of utmost importance to me.  I enjoy my job, and I will do my best.   I only ask that you as parents will help out with the following:

In second grade we have weekly spelling tests. there will be a practice test on Wednesday and the final test on Thursday. If a student spells all of the words correctly on the practice test they do not have to retake it on Thursday. Spelling lists for the following week are sent home on Friday. Please help your child study the list long before the final test on Thursday.
Please have your child read books at their reading level and record the titles on their book log.  One book log per month is our goal. When the book log is complete, please have your child return it to school. We are participating in the Pizza Hut Book It  Reading Program this year.  The program begins in October. Have your child read their books to you orally and record the titles on their log. One certificate per month, for a free, one topping, Personal Pan Pizza, will be given when students return their completed log. Reading is so important, please help your child to reach the goal each month. The monthly book log is a requirement for all students. The first book log is due by September 30.
Tennis shoes and proper clothes are needed for Physical Education class
on Wednesday and Thursday.
Library books need to be returned by Friday, our library day.
When your child brings home a folder with a copy of a book from our reading series, please have them read it orally to you, record it on the book log, and return it to school as soon as possible.
Remind your child that Show and Tell is on Wednesday.
Memorizing math facts is very important in second grade.  Each student has an individual goal.
These are problems with sums
0-18, and differences 0-9.  We will be having math timings often at school.
Your child will need extra time at home to drill on their facts.  You may need to make or purchase flash cards to help them study. If a student does not reach their goal, they will have homework for that night. Parents please help your child with this assignment; it should take no more than five minutes. Should a student reach their goal they advance to the next level the following day.
Starting in the month of October a Star Student is chosen weekly by the teacher. Your child will bring home a bright, gold form to be filled out with information about them. They will need your assistance.
Please make checks payable to the book or software company when ordering.
Thank you for your assistance with all of these matters.  Together we can give your child the best education possible. If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to call me at school 377-2308 or home 377-3966.
