Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES – Conference letters went home on Monday, October 26 with students.  Confirmation slips will be sent home with the report cards on Wednesday, November 4.  Information regarding your child’s performance in the Accelerated Reader Program along with DIBELS assessment was included. Conferences will be held on Tuesday, November 10 and Thursday, November 12.  Since communication between school and home is vital to your child’s learning, we value this time to meet with you and discuss mutual concerns and successes. Although we attempt to schedule a time that works for most, we realize that it does not work for all. If you have not scheduled a time to meet with your child’s teacher, please call the school so that a time can be arranged. If we do not hear from you in regard to conferencing, please expect the school to contact you. It is essential that we see you all.

Lost and found items will be on display on a table by the office during conferences.  Please check for any items your child may have lost at school.  There is NO SCHOOL on Friday, November 13.

READING - Our reading assembly will be held on Thursday, November 5 at 2:15 P.M. to recognize students’ reading achievement. Stockman Bank will be providing a new presidential dollar to each student who reaches his quarterly goal. In addition, each student who reaches his goal will have his name placed in a drawing for one of several presidential coin collector kits. Ten of these kits will be given during this time as well. Students in K are not involved in this program as most are just acquiring reading skills, and 1st graders will begin their participation starting in the second quarter.

Please be looking for your child’s TOPS report on a regular basis. This report will give you information concerning your child’s progress in reaching his goals. Thank you for your help in promoting reading at home. Your enthusiasm and encouragement are vital to your child’s attitudes and success.

ILLNESS - As you know, flu and other illnesses are upon us. While it would be nice to provide you again with information concerning preventive measures, that is not possible. We are working closely with the Dawson County Health Department to monitor conditions and make decisions about the best steps to take concerning our schools. Since we can not predict the extent or duration of this problem, it is impossible to provide specific steps or courses of action. We want to keep schools open and functioning in a normal manner during this flu season if possible. We will keep you updated with new information as it becomes available. For now we are doing everything we can to keep our school functioning as usual.

In regard to the health of your child, we entrust you as parents to make the best decisions regarding symptoms of illness, illness, and school attendance. If your child is running a fever, has diarrhea, or is vomiting, they should not be sent to school. Keep sick children at home for at least 24 hours after they no longer have fever or do not have signs of fever, without using fever-reducing drugs.  Keeping children with a fever at home will reduce the number of people who may get infected. If they are coughing, have a sore throat, a runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, and/or are feeling very tired, they probably should remain home as well.

The best way that you can help us is to make sure that you or someone else can make immediate arrangements to get your child home if the school calls and informs you that your child is ill. We are not equipped to make extended arrangements when your child needs the comfort and security of being home.

PARENT MEETING – An information meeting is scheduled for Thursday evening, November 5 to discuss the need for and the development of a parent group to support the work of Lincoln School. If you are interested in this type of involvement and would be committed to working in this regard, we would appreciate your attendance. The meeting will be held in the Room 11 upstairs at 6:30 p.m.

CHARACTER COUNTS PILLAR OF THE MONTH IS CITIZENSHIP – With elections taking place it is a good time to emphasize citizenship. During the month we will feature the duties, rights, conduct and responsibilities of the citizen of a state.  Some important points to make with children are:

*Be a good citizen and a good neighbor.

*Care about and pursue the common good.

*Be a volunteer – help your school and community be better, cleaner & safer.

*Protect the environment by conserving resources, reducing pollution, and cleaning up after yourself.

*Participate in making things better by voicing your opinion, voting, serving on committees, reporting

  wrongdoing, and paying taxes.

MANNERS OF THE WEEK FOR NOVEMBER:

and spend some time browsing with your favorite student.

We appreciate your dedication to creating lifelong readers. See you at our Book Fair!

AMERICAN EDUCATION WEEK – November 16 – 20 is observed throughout the nation as American Education Week.  Education is available to all regardless of race or creed and is a privilege we often take for granted.  We honor all who have a part in educating our young citizens.
